The King's Head was presented to the National Trust in 1926 by the widow of Charles Rothschild, and stands just off the top side of the Market Square in Aylesbury. Situated well in the centre part of the town, it was a focal point for a meeting place for trade and commerce from earliest times. A renovation was carried out by the National Trust in the 1990s and the and the tenants are now Chiltern Brewery. It is the oldest and probably the finest example of a courtyard inn in Buckinghamshire . The King's Head has is a premier 'place of hospitality' for the town centre. With the passing of the horse drawn carriage and modem traffic problems it was thought that perhaps the old inn would no longer have a part to play, but the King's Head represents the old heart of Aylesbury and has a firm role in the community.
The Aylesbury Society magazine is published quarterly and packed full of interesting articles about this historic county town of Buckinghamshire.
